Barclays Graduate Recruitment

Barclays Graduate Recruitment

Barclays will recruit more graduates for its 2007 intake than ever before and its recruits will have a more varied choice of career paths after the group today announced important changes to its graduate scheme, including the launch of a specialist retail programme.

Following a review, Barclays has more than doubled the number of different programmes it offers as part of its graduate scheme.  Applicants will now have the choice between 11 graduate programmes, compared to five previously.

Barclays took 70 graduates on its 2006 intake, will have 150 places available on its 2007 graduate scheme. Hannah Field, Head of Graduate Recruitment at Barclays, said: “Our new graduate programmes are more closely aligned to the specific needs of our business and better reflect the breadth of our operations.  They are designed to enable our graduates to start developing specialist skills from the very start of their career and to add value to the business and our customers from day one.”

One of the most significant developments to emerge from the review is the creation of a specialist Retail Banking programme.  Barclays network of more than 2,000 branches means the programme offers enormous scope for career development.  It is similar in content to those offered by major high street names outside the banking sector; graduates will gain first hand experience of day to day operations and current retail issues such as offering products online and developing customer relationships.

Alison Hopkins, Network Director, UK Retail Banking, at Barclays, said: “This programme is aimed at graduates passionate about retail, who have the drive to become front line managers and who can build a positive performance-orientated climate within their teams.

“One of the great things about this programme is that it combines all the benefits of a career in retail with the backing you can expect from a financial institution such as Barclays including a great salary, benefits and ongoing investment in training and development.”
