Centrica was created following the de-merger of British Gas in 1997. The group now includes: British Gas Residential Energy, British Gas Services, Centrica Energy, Centrica Storage, Dyno Group, Luminus, Luseo and Oxxio.

British Gas supplies gas and electricity to UK residential and business customers, provides central heating and gas appliance installation and maintenance and low-carbon and energy efficient products and services.

Graduate Programme

With limited places available, graduate programme is highly competitive but you will get extensive training opportunities, international placements and a work environment based on mutual trust and respect, a strong team ethic and a sense of community.

The programme is divided into eight areas. This is what you can expect to be doing in your area of choice:

Information systems
This two-year programme offers extensive technical and business-aligned training. After two six-month placements in our service delivery and business teams in your first year, the following year will be based on three criteria: your aspirations, our business needs and your performance.
Engineering
With opportunities in gas processing, electricity generation, gas storage, renewable and commercial activities, our two-year programme spans mechanical, electrical, chemical and project engineering, with exposure to Centrica Energy operations across the UK.
Project engineering
Our newly created two-year project engineering programme, offers the opportunity to become part of a successful project management team responsible for the delivery of major gas infrastructure, including gas storage and production projects.
Geoscience and Petroleum reservoir
Over the last few years Centrica Energy (CE) has undergone a dramatic change in its upstream approach.
Finance
Ever thought about what the energy industry can offer a finance professional? Our three-year programme will show you how finance supports our whole organisation. We’ll also give you time off to study and pay for your professional qualifications.
Analyst
Some challenges are quite straightforward to analyse. Not here. The demands of the energy market are great and for our business to succeed we need the most talented and exceptional analysts.
Customer operations
As an operational manager, what do you need to achieve today? Winning the respect of the people you manage? Increasing your understanding of customer needs? Creating a dynamic operational plan that will enable your team to exceed its goals? The answer is, of course, all of these things and many more.
Marketing
To be the leading integrated energy company in our chosen markets Centrica must deliver the right product propositions and use the right communication channels to maximise our brand and generate profitable growth.

Summer programme

Ten-week Summer placement scheme gives you a practice run at taking the first step from university to the world of work. You’ll get a real-life look at a graduate career at Centrica, and a first-hand learning experience that gives you the opportunity to understand if we could provide your future career. If so, and you perform well in your placement, you may return to your university with an offer to join the graduate programme after you graduate. Centrica offers a choice of locations across the UK. They will arrange and pay for accommodation close to your chosen location, where you will stay with other interns during your placement.
