There are four recruitment paths to permanent jobs in the Royal Mail (details correct at the time of publication but are subject to change:
Professional:
- Human resources - The Royal Mail HR team is split into three key areas, with People and Organisational Development Services (P&ODS) being the largest.
- Finance - Key roles include revenue protection, planning, performance reporting, risk management, commercial decision support and regional finance analysis.
- Sales & Marketing
- Marketing is responsible for retaining existing clients and bringing in new accounts for the business.
- Key areas of responsibility for sales are: promoting, selling, distributing and raising awareness of the products and services of the Royal Mail.
- Management & Executive -
- Working in operations:
- Delivery - Working as a postman or postwoman
- Driver - Transporting post between mail centres, train stations and airports and collect mail from businesses.
- Indoor Sorting - Sorting mail by hand and/or machinery
- Data entry keyer - View pictures of mail on-screen and key address corrections.
- Graduate Jobs in the Royal Mail: Visit their dedicated graduate recruitment website. Two-year Royal Mail graduate programmes include:
- Operations - 18-month programme, starting salary £23,000 (plus benefits), shift work is required, nationwide activity
- Logistics - starting salary from £23,000 (plus benefits), roles in the North West, Yorkshire, Midlands, London & Bristol, 12-month programme.
- Advanced Apprenticeships: Visit the dedicated Royal Mail Apprenticeship website:
- Year one - Successful candidates attend a 30-week residential course which covers: Level 2 Diploma in Engineering Operations - Functional Skills/Key Skills - BTEC National Diploma in Operations and Maintenance - IOSH Working safely
- Year two and three - A 6-week residential course to achieve the successful completion of the BTEC National Diploma in Operations and Maintenance Level 3. The majority of years two and three will be Mail Centre based to enable completion of the NVQ Level 3 in Engineering Operations.
