The term utility in the sense of a public corporation was coined for those entities responsible for delivering certain essential infrastructure services. Traditionally; natural gas, electricity, fresh water, waste water and the wider telephone network. The ideas was that the provision of these systems was so expensive that they had by definition to be state run and funded. In the 21st century this idea has been completely overturned and many of Europe's utilities are in private hands.
For the purposes of our own resources we include any organisation operating or maintaining; water, power or telecommunication networks. Our listing below are not exhaustive and we welcome submission for free entry from any other of the region's utilities; our contact details are at the bottom of the page.
Utility companies, even large ones can change hands without changing their names or they may in fact go through an entire re branding process. The details on the page were correct at the time of publication but are subject to change.
