The Secret Garden - Trinity Theatre (Tunbridge Wells)
The
Trinity Theatre is thrilled to be showcasing a children’s classic for this year’s festive production. Celebrating its 100th year of publication, Frances Hodgson Burnett’s ‘The Secret Garden’ follows the story of spoilt and newly orphaned Mary Lennox, who arrives at the desolate and secretive Misselthwaite Manor to live with her reclusive uncle, Archibald Craven. Away from the watchful eyes of the icy housekeeper Mrs Medlock, Mary discovers a key that unlocks a hidden garden, overgrown and abandoned many years ago. As she tends to the garden, bringing it back to life, it becomes her refuge. Mary slowly adapts to life at the Manor and forms some unlikely friendships, but why is her Uncle Craven so guarded? Who is the boy whose cries she hears during the night? What other secrets does the Manor hold? Trinity Theatre’s production, in association with TTC, features original music by Steven Markwick and promises to showcase the best performing talents of the local area. Proving the timelessness of this much loved story, eminent director Michael Elliott returns for this engaging stage adaption by Diana Morgan after a hugely successful run at Trinity Theatre 15 years ago. 14-18, 20-24, 26-31 December, 1 January (varied performance times).
