Historic Holidays At Dover Castle - Peverell's Tower - The Sergeant Major's House

Retreat to a Georgian Sergeant Major's House

English Heritage will be offering holidaymakers the rare opportunity to stay at the heart of historic Dover Castle with the launch of a portfolio of self-catering holiday cottages.

Dover Castle boasts the longest history of any fortress in Britain. Standing on top of the White Cliffs of Dover, the most iconic natural monument in England, the Castle commands the shortest sea crossing between England and the continent. William the Conqueror built the first castle here in 1066. Over the succeeding centuries it has been massively altered, extended and strengthened. Guests will be able to stay in the former residence of the Battery Sergeant Major of Dover Castle, an elegant four-storey Georgian house sleeping up to six guests.

Tracey Wahdan, English Heritage Visitors Operations Director for the South East said; "It's great that we can offer people the chance to stay within the walls of one of England's most historic castles. We're sure they'll enjoy the luxurious accommodation and heritage that surrounds it.

"Developing this kind of opportunity is integral to the success of the Dover Pride Regeneration Strategy. This plan seeks to raise the profile of the town with visitors and generate new business opportunities."

The accommodation is aimed at the luxury end of the market and will offer contemporary 21st century interiors within a dramatic heritage environment.

All guests will be welcomed with a hamper of grocery essentials featuring local produce and a basket of English Heritage toiletries, together with discount vouchers for English Heritage shops and property entrance.
