Main attractions In Boulogne:

  • Le Chateau Musee - Castle of the Counts of Boulogne built at the beginning of the 13th century. Set in the Old Town next to the Cathedral. Houses the largest collection of Greek and Etruscan vases after the Louvre.
  • Maison de la Beuriere - heart of the old seafaring quarter of Boulogne, an authentic fisherman's house built in 1870 with the interior re-constructed so you can see how a sailor's family lived in 1900. Portrays real atmosphere of the old fishing traditions of Boulogne.
  • Napoleon and Boulogne - The imperial town of Boulogne possesses the tallest column in France (54m) dedicated to Napoleon's Grande Armee. The town was the birthplace of the Legion d'Honneur. Every summer a major historical re-enactment recalls this prestigious period.
  • Nausicaa - Centre National de la Mer. A unique encounter between Man and the Sea. Major European venue for discovering the sea and puts marine life in a broad environmental context. On Boulevard Gambetta - attracts over 800,000 visitors a year.
  • Saint-Nicholas Church - Boulogne's oldest church. Open on Monday and Wednesday from 9.15 to 11.15 and on saturday from 14.00 to 17.00.
  • Casa San Martin - the statue of José San Martin, who liberated Argentina, Chile and Peru from Spanish rule. His house is a museum today. Address: 113 Grande Rue, Boulogne.
