With prices starting from as little as £35* each way for a car and up to nine people and day trip fares, don't miss out on a great break this spring. More details here. 3 Villages Of Guines The 3 villages (Les Trois-Pays) of Guines, Licques and Hardinghen have two main claims to fame. Guines found its way into the history books when in 1520 two Kings, François 1 of France and Henry 8 of England met, amid scenes of great splendour, to settle their differences and so avoid war. The site of this historic encounter is marked by a modest roadside plaque. Licques, for its part, is famous for its production of fine poultry originated by monks of the Premonstratensian order in the 17th century. Each year, in December, a procession of turkeys passes through the village accompanied by nobles dressed in 17th century costume. Other culinary interest in the area is exemplified by the production of foie gras, honey and beer. Relatively recent development in the area is the arrival of the St Joseph village, one man’s extraordinary recreation of the rural buildings that once existed there. In miniature but in working order. Four star camping, guest houses and Gites are available for visitors to the area.

Moll emailed Yourcounty to say: "The turkey procession is worth seeing if you are in that part of France, really great fun." Yourcounty user Marian Anderson emailed us with her experience of this area: "Guines - I didn't see much of it, but it has a forest nearby, lovely countryside, but it does (or did in 1998) have a wonderful young doctor - I fell over a kerb and fractured my shoulder. Young builder working nearby rushed for doctor who having coffee in the bar I'd have gone in if my friend hadn't turned her nose up at it, causing me to rush to look at local map and wham! Ended up in Calais hospital outpatients who equally wonderful. It's a pretty village, and I can vouch for the natives being friendly."
