Lydd Airport in Kent has announced the appointment of Charles Buchanan as CEO.

Charles is now working alongside Lydd’s senior management team as it continues to take the airport’s multi-million-pound development plans forward.

Charles has almost 30 years’ experience in the establishment and commercial development of transport infrastructure. Before joining Lydd, he spent four years as CEO at Kent’s Manston Airport, where he was responsible for airport operations and financial performance.

During that time, he introduced scheduled passenger flights to Amsterdam with KLM and increased cargo traffic to make Manston the 5th largest cargo airport in the UK.

Prior to that, he worked for more than 10 years at London City Airport, ultimately as Strategy and Communications Director, where he gained planning permission to increase the number of flights by 50%. In addition he managed the development of the airport, delivering infrastructure projects totalling £30 million.

Charles also spent 12 years with Channel Tunnel operator Eurotunnel, latterly as Group Sales Manager with responsibility for sales and marketing both in the UK and on the Continent.

Charles said: “I’ve joined Lydd at a very exciting time and I’m now working with the rest of the senior management team and staff to bring the airport’s development plans to fruition.

“I relish the opportunity of growing Lydd’s role and importance in the local economy as it develops into a first-class modern regional airport, creating employment opportunities and delivering lasting benefits for the people of Shepway and Kent.”

Work on the airport’s runway extension is expected to begin later this year. For further information, visit www.lydd-airport.co.uk
