08/02/10 Persimmons Development Ashford - Park Farm A major new housing development has been given the thumbs up this week after Persimmon Home South East’s application to build 79 homes at Park Farm in Ashford, Kent was approved by Ashford Borough Council’s Planning Committee. The 2.35 hectare site will see a range of 2, 3 and 4 bedroom homes and 1 and 2 bedroom flats. It will also include 14 affordable homes, a total of 220 parking spaces and associated landscaping. The site, called Phase 3a, is part of the wider Park Farm (Bridgefield) development which straddles the A2070 and Ashford to Hastings railway line and is likely to see 780 homes in total. Members of the Planning Committee were particularly pleased with a number of elements to the application that council planning officers had successfully negotiated including increased parking, tree planting and amendments to some design features. Cllr John Kemp, portfolio holder for Planning and Development at Ashford Borough Council, said: “With 250 homes already completed and around 230 more in progress, Park Farm is a major development site in the town. The design of these homes picks up on local architecture and will deliver something that is specifically Ashford focused. I believe they will appeal to a range of occupiers and will attract existing residents as well as newcomers to Ashford.” Chris Heney, development director for Persimmon Homes South East, said: “We are pleased to maintain our commitment to and association with the Ashford area and continue to play a key part in the town’s growth. The application highlights our dedication to not only building high quality homes, but communities too, and I believe our next phase at Bridgefield will create a sought-after location where people look forward to coming home to.”
