Responding to the Government’s announcement of public consultation on a new airport in the Thames Estuary

Charles Buchanan, Chief Executive of Manston Airport, said: “We welcome the announcement of a formal consultation on a new airport.

“It is vital that any decision on such a major development is evidence based and considers all the opportunities and challenges of the various solutions proposed. For the country as a whole and the economy of the South East region in particular, it is essential that there is a credible roadmap towards the additional capacity that is needed, and which will fundamentally maintain and grow the UK's commercial links with the emerging economies of the world.

“We remain confident that Manston has a significant role to play both in the short term in meeting the growing demand for air travel and cargo air transport, and as part of an integrated solution to the longer term capacity crisis that is looming in the South East.”
