18/01/10 West Kent Charity Golf - Seeking sponsors
Businesses in West Kent are being asked to help the residents of a local home to lead a fuller, more active lifestyle.
Mount Ephraim House, a residential home in Mount Ephraim, Tunbridge Wells, is holding its first charity golf day and is looking for local businesses to help raise £1,000 for the residents’ social and activity fund.
Being held at Nizels Golf Club in Hildenborough on Friday 9 April, the 18 hole tournament will welcome almost 40 golfers.
Marilyn Bridger, Activities Co-ordinator at Mount Ephraim House, said: “We appreciate that this is a tough time for businesses but a small amount of money can make all the difference to our residents. Companies can sponsor a hole or can even come along and take part.
“The idea for the event came about because many of our residents, their families and the staff have a keen interest in golf. We believe it is vital to provide activities that our residents will enjoy and that will keep them active and interested. However, as a not-for-profit organisation we have limited funds and need to keep fundraising in order to provide a variety of activities for all of our residents who want to participate.
Residents at Mount Ephraim will be making decorations for each of the 18 holes during the run up to the event. On the day, they will be on hand to meet some of the golfers and to help run a raffle.
“Not everyone is able to venture out but we hold regular events that all our residents can enjoy such as bingo, craft classes, exercise sessions and also have visits from local musicians and historians,” continued Marilyn. “Last year we went on a boat trip, saw several theatre shows, visited other homes for afternoon tea and even invested in a Wii Fit, the interactive games console – all of which require funding.”
Tickets, which cost £42 per person, include a breakfast, a round of golf and a carvery lunch. Businesses interested in sponsoring a hole or golfers who are keen to take part should contact Marilyn Bridger on 01892 520316.
