The Dove Inn - Dargate
At the time of writing The Dove Inn serves food lunch times except Mondays and evening meals except Sunday, Monday and Tuesday. Lunch time openings are 11.30am-3pm, and evening openings 6pm-11.30pm, (Sunday openings are: 12pm-3pm and 7pm-11pm. The cost of an average meal (three courses), with wine is roughly £30.
Countryside Gastro pubs, are now a familiar site, but the Dove at Dargate is widely regarded as exceptional. The Dove Inn, is located in the sleepy village of
Dargate, between Faversham and Whitstable, just off the A229. It is the remarkable restaurant style food that has brought notoriety to The Dove, with recognition coming from The Michelin Good Food Guide, and Egon
Ronay. The Dove was also named Kent food pub of the year in 2004.
There are a selection of options from the more humble lunch time bar menu,
(including baguettes). There is a good wine list, which is reasonably
priced.
The Dove is a large Victorian ivy covered building. As the only pub in the village, it is hard to miss. The Dove Inn boasts an excellent floral garden with a rockery and even a dovecote! The inside is friendly and comfortable with several rooms, and an open log fire.
This is still a popular country pub frequented by the local villagers, who are rewarded by attentive staff and well kept Shepard Neame Ales.
The quality of The Dove Inn, is reflected in the frequency of return visitors, and the need to book in advance for a meal. Children are welcome in the eating area, and dogs are gladly accommodated in the bar.
