Described by the Kent brewer as "A lovely country pub built in 1540. Originally a farm dwelling, part of the estate of Thomas Hart, "Gentleman, of Faversham", it became a coaching inn in the 18th century and registered as The George in honour of King George I. The pub was purchased by the Shepherd Brewery of Faversham in 1887." The interior of the George is full of character with exposed beams, three inglenook fireplaces and a riot of furniture. Attract garden at it's best in the warm weather. The no-smoking, candlelit restaurant serves a good range of food and is a particularly good venue for a romantic dinner for two. Highlights from the menu include evergreen pub favorites like steak and kidney pudding, curry, fish as well as more elaborate choices such as seared duck or lamb shoulder in a red wine sauce. Main courses average out at about £12, lunchtime sandwich and baguettes from around £3. Good wine list for a pub restaurant (available by the glass), all the usual Sheps beers available. The pub is on the main road through the village (The Street) so you won't miss it. On street and car parking but it can get busy, booking for dinner always advisable. Well worth a visit for a meal or just a drink. The George
