The Lobster Pot - Pubs In West Malling - Country Pubs In Kent

The pub has a solid reputation for real ale and which has been recognised in recent years by the local CAMRA society. A good standard of bar and restaurant food compliment the wide selection of ales.

The real ales are in constant rotation, when we visited; Adnams - Southwold, Fullers - ESB, Goachers and the too rarely seen Black Swan - Dark Mild were amongst the dozen or so on sale. Stella was on tap and several bottled beers were also available. As with most pubs serving quality food there was a good wine list.

The food was great, stuffed mushrooms followed by pan-fried duck set the pair of us back about £30. That might seem dear for pub food but it was very, very nice. More extensive menu in the restaurant where starters can be had from £5 and main courses were typically about £12 - £14. Bar meals and snacks include a good choice of sandwiches and baguettes as well as some typical pubs favorites.

The service was quick and efficient but both the restaurant and pub got very busy. Booking for the restaurant is a good idea at popular times. The pub is in Swan Street in the centre of West Malling, limited adjacent parking with the railway station a brisk 15 minute walk away.

A superb pub for fans of real ale and quality pub food in pleasant surroundings.
