The White Horse - Pubs In Bridge - Country Pubs In KentA traditional pub - restaurant with a long history, set in the heart of Bridge just outside Canterbury. Entering the building a small bar is to your right with the restaurant beyond, to your left is the second bar area with the brassiere. The bars are separated by a large fireplace that blazes away for most of the winter. The pub and brassiere attract both local and visiting trade. You will always find a good selection of ale as well as all the usual beverages we've come to expect to find in pub; Black Sheep, Masterbrew, Youngs, Rabbitstail, Strongbow, Heineken, Guinness and the all too rarely seen Eliots Mulled Wine were all present when I visited. There's also a good selection of wine and hot drinks. Despite the excellent pint of Young's I experienced and the warm welcome afforded drinkers in general; food is the area where the White Horse is building a growing reputation in East Kent. The Brasserie is open lunchtimes and evenings (closed Sunday evenings) and aims to provide restaurant quality food at pub prices. The blackboard menu gives an indication of the quality of cuisine the White Horse is aspiring too, whilst keeping prices accessible. At the time of our visit starters included: Brown Onion Soup with French Toast and Gruyere, Spicy Crab Cakes with a Lime, Chili and Vodka dressing. Amongst the main courses featured were Cod & Chips with Bitter Batter and Roast Salmon Fillet with a Spicy Tomato Tangine Sauce and Minted Couscous. Diners could also choose from a selection of salads and desserts. The pub has occasional live music, usually on a Friday evening but you won't find juke boxes or slot machines. There is limited car parking to the side and rear of the building and a beer garden. There are no smoking sections in both the brasserie and main restaurant. The restaurant has been open about six months and is developing a reputation that is attracting epicures from across the region. There is a low step immediately inside the front door so if you need wheelchair access check with the pub before you go. You can find The White Horse at:
