The Crab And Winkle - Kent Seafood Restaurants

The Crab And Winkle - Kent Seafood Restaurants

Above the fish market overlooking the fishing boats with views across the harbour  The Crab And Winkle probably enjoys the most appropriate setting of any seafood restaurant in Kent. Light, bright and modern the restaurant is friendly and informal. Children are welcome and full disable access and rest room services are available. Frequent innovations and incentives ensure that business is brisk so always think about booking at weekends, particularly during the summer months.

On our visit my guest and I shared a plate of Sweet Pan Fried Scallops. For mains we tried the Moules Mariniere and Pan Friend Salmon on a bed of potatoes and cabbage with bacon. Everything was good but I found the salmon the best of the three dishes we tried and I'd recommend it. We also took advantage of the membership scheme of a free bottle of wine on our first visit if we joined the dining club.

If you're looking for value for money try the 2 courses for £11 lunchtime menu (available Monday - Saturday at the time of writing). Chose from:

  • Crab Bisque - Beetroot & Goat's Cheese Salad - Smoked Salmon Mousse

  • Baked Local Herring - Smoked Haddock Fishcakes - Confit Leg of Gressingham Duck - Apple Celery and Blue Cheese Risotto

  • Iced Plum Pudding Parfait - Ginger Rice Pudding - Wigmore Soft Cow's Milk Cheese

The A La Carte menu is slightly more ambitious with starter and desserts from £5 and mains from about £10.50. At the time of writing you could try:

  • Trio of Smoked, Cured & Pickled Fish - Roast Beetroot & Red Wine Risotto - Pan Fried Scallops - Pigeon, Bacon & Sage Terrine - Kohlrabi Remoulade, Apple & Sultana Dressing - Pea, Broad Bean & Parmesan Salad - Pan-Fried Crab & Ginger Cake
  • Poached Fillet of Smoked Haddock - Grilled Gurnard Fillets - Roast Saddle of Godmersham Venison - Pan Fried Fillet of Organic Salmon
Fricassee of Leeks & Bacon, Foraged Mushroom Mash, Walnut Coulis - Grilled Tuna Steak With A Sesame Crust
  • Quince, Apple & Raisin Oat Crumble - Lemon Posset with Orange & Mint - Vanilla & Ginger Burnt Cream - Pear Compote, Pear Crumble Ice Cream

Compares favourably with other local good quality restaurants.
