The Marquis of Granby is at pub-restaurant in the
picturesque Alkham Valley near Dover. The pub has a bar with a separate
dining room (Kentish Room). The restaurant has a wide a la carte menu with
a good selection of starters, excellent, sensibly priced main courses,
mouthwatering sweets and a good cheese board. The wine list is definitely
a cut above many pub-restaurants in the area and the selection includes
the celebrated Chateau Fleur Cardinale.
The restaurant consistently
provides fine dining in a relaxed environment. The menu has an emphasis on
fish with a gentle leaning to French cuisine. To begin with you could
select Ardennes Pate' or Deep-fried Brie with Redcurrant Jelly, tuck into
a main course of Tornado Rossini or Glastonbury Lamb and if your appetite
hasn't been completely sated try the Spotted Dick.
The Marquis takes food very
seriously and compares favorably with many mid priced restaurants. The
menu offers a range of prices and two can enjoy a delicious two course
meal (drinks excluded) from about £30.
The pub has a long tradition
of good food and it's bar meals enjoy as a good reputation locally as the
restaurant, most notably for the battered fish. If you've not been to the
Alkham Valley before it's worth visiting the restaurant just for the view.
