The Spice Court came highly
recommended by a friend and a self proclaimed 'Medway curry guru', we
avoided the temptation to pick fault with the guru's judgment and went
with an open mind.
We had a short train journey
to get to Gillingham and the Spice Court is right opposite the station.
The interior is modern with hidden and recessed lighting, service is good
and the general appearance and atmosphere pleasant, we went at 8.00pm on a
weekday evening, didn't have to book and enjoyed an unhurried meal.
The menu includes the curry
house standards with a few more unusual choices. Nargis Kebab (deep fried
egg with lamb mince) was a delicious starter that my usual Indian
restaurant doesn't offer and the Lamb Chop Tandoori was predictable but a
nice change, I also would recommend the Chilli Naan. After a little
negotiation about how hot is hot we established that if you asked nicely
you could get many of the dishes hotter or milder according to your taste.
Two courses each with a drink
and sundries came to just over £28 and was more than either of us could
eat. The food was good without being exceptional but the place was a cut
above many of the alternatives in the town on a like for like comparison.
We will be going back and we would recommend it to a friend.
