The restaurant, private dining rooms and bar are set in a restored grade two listed building, perfectly in keeping with the genteel surroundings of old Tunbridge Wells. Richard Phillips is the beating heart of the business and as co-proprietor and chef he has had a huge influence on the menu, which could be described as 'modern French'. In common with most good Kent restaurants Thackeray's makes a real effort to use the best and freshest local ingredients where possible. The presentation and obvious quality of the food are well matched by the sophisticated but genial surroundings. Three courses from the set lunchtime menu (Menu du Jour) comes in at just under £20. You can probably eat just as well for a similar price in several other restaurants in the county, but you'll struggle to find somewhere to rival the overall dining experience at the same price. The lunchtime menu included (at the time of writing) Roast Quail as a starter, Rosette of Bream with a Mandarin Brulée to follow. There is a good wine list and sensibly for a lunchtime meal some vintages can be purchased by the glass or half bottle. Check out the website for the current full Menu du Jour and A La Carte Menus and wine list. You can also make a reservation on line. You can find Thackeray's at:
