Internet giant MSN has praised the newly-opened Bay Restaurant in St Margaret’s-at-Cliffe near Dover and has awarded it the accolade of ‘UK Restaurant of the Month’.

Food writers at MSN have heaped plaudits on the restaurant which only opened this summer within The White Cliffs Hotel in the seaside village. The hotel has opened following a £1.5m investment by Kent businessman Gavin Oakley and his family.

According to MSN, the location and style of the seaside hotel, the innovative menu and the use of locally sourced and grown produce is a winning combination which has quickly made The Bay a hugely popular choice among locals and visitors alike.

The White Cliffs Hotel, formerly The Garden House Hotel, is located in the heart of St Margaret’s village and centres around a traditional Kentish weather-boarded inn, parts of which date back to Elizabethan times.

Gavin said: “While it’s very pleasing to gain plaudits from organisations like MSN and The AA Restaurant Guide, it’s even more important that our visitors enjoy their experience here. The feedback we’re getting from diners and hotel guests has been incredible and has made all the hard work worthwhile.

“The Bay Restaurant has quickly made a name for itself thanks to the skills of the chef and his team and because of free-range, organic, sustainable and locally sourced produce from the Kentish coast and countryside,” added Gavin.

The Bay Restaurant is the hub of The White Cliffs Hotel, which is a bare-foot luxury destination complete with cool New England style rooms, a micro spa in The Loft and a store selling stylish dining, bar and kitchenware.

Gavin Oakley and his family have already developed an award-winning business at the 4-star Wallett’s Court Country House Hotel and Spa in nearby Westcliffe. Gavin has already won 2 AA dining rosettes for his restaurant at Wallett’s Court, and plaudits in a number of guides, including The Good Food Guide.

Visitors to The Bay Restaurant can choose from a range of starters from £5, main courses from £12 and desserts from £5.
