The Whitstable Oyster Fishery Restaurant
This fish restaurant was opened around 15
years ago by The Whitstable Oyster Fisheries Co. The formula here is;' to
provide exceptionally fresh fish, cooked simply' and it works. The
Fisheries Co. uses its own boats and fisherman to ensure that the
freshness and quality of it's oysters. The oysters here are great, but if
they are not your cup of tea there are many other fish and seafood based
dishes to tempt you. The food is indeed outstanding, but in my opinion
slightly overpriced. Don't let that put you off, I don't like paying over
the odds for anything
My menu highlights at the time of writing included:
- 1/2 Doz Rock Oysters
- Char Grilled Sardines
- Whole Lobster With Potato Salad
- Whole Roast local Seabass with Garlic and Rosemary
The restaurant is directly on the beach,
providing excellent views any time of year. The interior is stylish in a
minimalist way with large scrubbed tables, stripped floorboards and
plaster less walls. The menu's are written on blackboards, which looks
nice, but is a little impractical if you are sitting in the corner! The
Oyster Restaurant is busy all year round, so you would be well advised to
book in advance especially at the weekends. I would definitely recommend a
visit.
