The White Horse, Bridge - Restaurants In Kent

A small, up-market restaurant set in a traditional pub in the heart of the village of Bridge. We've reviewed the White Horse Pub & Brasserie in our pub reviews and we finally returned to experience the much acclaimed restaurant. The dining room has about 30 covers, which assures attentive but not claustrophobic service. The restaurant is almost completely separate from the rest of the inn. It's well appointed with ample space between tables.

The menu on our Friday evening visit included six starters and six main courses, including; meat, fish and vegetarian options. As a prelude to the entree we were served warm speciality bread (coriander and pepper if memory serves me correctly) with butter and a salmon mouse.

I opted for a meat charcuterie platter to start; a selection of excellent fine meat dishes; ham, sausage, potted meat, many of local origin, served with a variety of accompaniments. A brilliant starter well presented with good variety and balance. My partner enjoyed a fragrant salmon fishcake although she was tempted by the lobster.

After much deliberation I took a chance on the battered Whitstable Plaice with fresh peas and chips, an inspired choice. A typically (locally caught summer plaice are 'typically' very good) excellent piece of local fish in a batter that was on a par with any I have ever tasted. Throw aside the preconception about battering flat fish. With the right batter cooked correctly it's a winner! My fellow diner opted for a pinkish rack of lamb with a mixture of roast vegetables which she described as "very good".

An excellent dining experience was broadly reflected in the price; although the bill of £75 was inflated by a bottle of Chateauneuf Du Pape at £24.50.

Some delightful food served in a pleasant dining environment, which compares favorable with many of the better quality restaurants in the area. A must for all local fine dining enthusiasts, needless to say booking is advisable, particularly at weekends, highdays and holidays.

Car parking to the side and rear with a ramp for wheelchair access to the restaurant.

"We suspected that your review had set our expectations too high, not a bit of it, a truly excellent meal, not cheap, but we did get what we paid for"

"We have been to the White Horse at Bridge twice during the same week in March 05 after reading your review. We both liked it very much especially for the use of local and seasonal products. These were some of the best dining experiences we ever made in England. We will be back to the region in September and certainly try to go there again.

Best regards

Alfred & Theresa from Zurich"
