08/02/10 A2 Between Brenley Corner And Dover - Safety upgrade
Thousands of road studs, or cat’s eyes, on the A2 in Kent are to be replaced, offering improved safety for the 25,000 drivers who use the road every day.
The Highways Agency will fit 26,000 new studs on the A2 from Brenley Corner, where the A2 meets the M2, and Dover.
The work is part of a ten-week improvement programme that will also see the 30-mile stretch of road resurfaced in places. A number of parking bays for maintenance vehicles will also be provided as part of the work.
John Burns, Highways Agency Route Manager for Kent, said: “This work is essential to maintain the condition of the A2, to ensure drivers can use the road safely and reliably. We have carefully planned various sets of works to be carried out at the same time overnight in order to minimise disruption. We thank road users for their patience and would ask them to allow more time for their journeys while the works are carried out.”
A series of lane or full carriageway closures overnight will be put in place so the improvements can be carried out safely and for the safety of road users.
The work is weather-dependant.
