30/07/08 Say It With A Post-it Note - Maidstone

Maidstone council wants you to tell it what you think is good about the borough, what can be improved, what your visions are for the future and what can be done to turn the town greener.

Along with its partners, Maidstone Borough Council is starting a new initiative to realise people’s ideas and views for Maidstone.

It has been called ‘Stick up for Maidstone’ because it involves groups of people sticking their ideas and views onto post-it notes and putting them onto large sheets of paper.

Packs including pencils, post-it notes, four large sheets of paper headed good, bad, dream and something green, copies of the current Community Strategy for Maidstone - ‘Maidstone Matters’ and a stamp addressed envelope to return to the community planning team will be given out to various groups across the town.

The packs are aimed at groups such as The Women’s Institute, parish council meetings and other business or social groups.

Once the post-it notes have been written out groups are encouraged to discuss each others comments. It is hoped this new idea will help people express their opinions about Maidstone.

Jim Boot, community planning co-ordinator, hopes the consultation will be a success with the community. He said: “We really want local people to tell us what they think of the Maidstone borough as a place to live and work. We’ll use the information to write the next ten-year plan for Maidstone. Yes, we want to hear the bad things, where we can make improvements, but we also want to hear about people’s dreams for making Maidstone a better place.”

There are three ways you can stick up for Maidstone. Online at www.digitalmaidstone.co.uk/sufm; in person, visiting our trailer at various events across the borough, including the Mela on Sunday, September 14; or as a club or group – you can contact the council on 01622 602246 to arrange delivery of a ‘DIY-stick-up-tool-kit’.
