Battle Of Britain Me London Ashford Airport at Lydd welcomed three very special visitors when aircraft from the Battle of Britain Memorial Flight paid a flying visit. A Spitfire and a Hurricane escorting a Dakota DC3 touched down at the Romney Marsh airport last week. The aircraft were en-route to an airshow in Europe from their base at RAF Coningsby near Lincoln and made a refueling stop at Lydd before crossing the English Channel. The vintage aircraft created quite a stir at Lydd, and a number of spectators crowded the airport’s viewing area to catch a glimpse of them parked near the terminal building. As well as topping up on duty free fuel, the Memorial Flight’s aircrews also received a briefing on weather conditions for their onward route and completed their flight planning arrangements. The Battle of Britain Memorial Flight is set for a busy year in 2008, the 90th anniversary of the RAF.
