19/01/12 Charity Collections And Contributions - Kent Trading Standards

KCC Trading Standards Officers have recently been checking claims in relation to charity collections and contributions made by businesses in Kent. The claims checked were found in local newspapers and magazines, on the internet and from various posters and notices on display in shops. Enquiries were then made with the businesses and charities to confirm the accuracy of any claims.

Residents will be pleased to know that all the businesses looked at were not found to be making any false or misleading claims with regard to money given to charities.

However, information received in the past has led to two ongoing investigations whereby claims to donate money from businesses have been found to be baseless. This was the reasoning for carrying out further checks.

If residents feel they have been misled by any charitable claims by a business they should report the details to Trading Standards, via Consumer Direct on 0808 156 2256.
