10/11/08 Could Adoption Be Your Option? - KCC As part of the annual National Adoption Week (10 to 16 November), Kent County Council Adoption Service will be holding an Information Open Day at the Hilton Hotel, Bearsted Road, Maidstone on Saturday 15 November. The event, which is on between 10.30am and 3:30pm, will help and inform anyone interested in taking the first steps towards adopting a child or young person. There is a need for more adopters across the county who can provide new permanent families for children, particularly older children and those with specific difficulties. Cabinet Member for Children, Families and Educational Standards Leyland Ridings said: “We are looking for single people, married couples and unmarried couples in long-term relationships. Adoptive families are particularly needed for older children, groups of brothers and sisters and children from black and minority ethnic backgrounds. “The adoption process is very thorough but at the event, you will get the chance to talk informally with staff from the adoption service and with adopters who have been through the process, to find out what it is all about.” Anyone unable to attend the open day who is interested in adoption can get more information online at www.kent.gov.uk/adoption or by calling 0845 330 2968.
