Green Flag - Awards 2008 Woodbury Park Cemetery is the newest candidate in Royal Tunbridge Wells to achieve a prestigious Green Flag award in 2008. Further Green Flags were awarded to Dunorlan Park and The Grove. Dunorlan has also retained its special Green Heritage status. Green Flags are awarded to the best green spaces in the country by the Civic Trust and the judges set very high standards. Parks and open spaces must be welcoming and safe and have strong support from their local communities. There’s no better way to demonstrate this than by having an active Friends group. The Friends of Woodbury Park Cemetery, Friends of The Grove and the Friends of Dunorlan Park impressed the judges with their programmes of community events and activities. The Rusthall Community and Youth Project 'Zone Garden' has received a seventh consecutive Green Pennant Award from the Civic Trust for community managed green and open space. The garden is inspired, designed, developed and maintained by 'Zone' Youth Group. Cllr James Scholes, Portfolio Holder for Safer and Stronger Communities, said: ‘We’re delighted with this year’s awards. Past surveys have shown that the rate of satisfaction with parks and open spaces in the borough are amongst the highest in the country. Winning and retaining Green Flag awards is a great bonus and confirms our very high standards.’
