08/11/11 Kent County Junior Choir - Raising funds at Bluewater
Kent County Junior Choir will be singing live on national TV at Bluewater shopping centre to help raise funds for BBC’s Children in Need on Friday November 18. The 60-strong choir, made up of youngsters from all over Kent, will be conducted by Gareth Malone, choirmaster and award-winning broadcaster of the hit TV reality show The Choir. They will be singing Keep Holding On along with choirs at different locations all over the country as part of a live link-up with Gareth conducting all of them from BBC’s Children in Need studio. Jo Fitzmaurice, who manages the choirs for Kent Music, said: “Our junior choir is very excited about performing on TV. The age range is 11 to 15 and although they do sing at public events, they will probably be a little nervous as it’s such a privilege to be singing live on national television for Children in Need.” The choir meets once a month on a Saturday, 10am to 4pm, with rehearsals alternating between Rochester and Maidstone. Admission is by audition; details can be found at www.kent-music.com or by calling Jo on 01622 358406. Members perform at public concerts three times a year and enjoy a well-attended summer school. The choir’s Christmas Concert will be held at All Saints Church, Maidstone, on Saturday, December 10, at 5.30pm. Tickets priced £6 are available on the door with funds supporting the choir’s activities.
