30/01/12 Pavilion Leisure Centre Makeover - Phase one complete

New facilities and state of the art exercise equipment in the Pavilion leisure centre have been unveiled to the public.

The newly refurbished active lifestyle gym, changing facilities and reception area upgrade are part of Bromley Council's £5m improvement scheme in partnership with Mytime Active. Contractors are continuing to work on the ten pin bowling centre and family play area which will be completed in the Spring. The scheme is the first major building project to be undertaken as part of the Bromley Town Centre Area Action Plan (AAP).

"This scheme heralds the start of our exciting plans for the town centre and underlines our commitment to Building a Better Bromley. The new Pavilion will provide modern leisure facilities in the heart of the town centre for residents and visitors. Promoting more leisure options will increase the town's attractiveness for all age groups, including families and young people" said Councillor Stephen Carr, the Leader of Bromley Council.

The scheme was approved following overwhelming support during the extensive public consultation period about the 20 year old centre, which is operated by Mytime Active, the charitable leisure trust. The funding for the scheme is provided by the existing investment fund created from savings when Mytime Active was established and trading surpluses. The leisure centre remains open to the public during the improvement works, which will be at no additional cost to the tax payer.

Steve Price, Mytime Chief Executive said: "The improvements place the Pavilion right at the heart of the town centre and make Bromley a great place to live, work and visit and keep the entire family fit and healthy. I'd like to thank our customers for their patience during the building works which will continue until the improvements are completed later this year."

The Bromley town centre AAP was formally adopted in October 2010 and is intended to guide development and improvements in the town centre. The vision of the plan is to promote and enhance Bromley's position as metropolitan town centre, making it a vibrant place where an increasing number of people want to live, work and shop.
