08/11/11 Remembrance Sunday Parade And Service - Maidstone

The Mayor of Maidstone, Cllr Brian Mortimer, will join military and civic dignitaries, Maidstone Borough councillors, and the public to remember those who have been killed in conflict, fighting for their country.

The annual parade through Maidstone’s town centre will see more than 700 people taking part; led by the Band of the Salvation Army, contingents include 36 Engineer Regiment (Search), the Maidstone Branch of the Royal British Legion and British Army Association, St John Ambulance, and Army and Sea Cadets.

The parade will step off at 10.30am from Week Street and march along the High Street, past the Town Hall, across the Bridge Gyratory and to the Cenotaph on The Broadway for the Service of Remembrance.

The Service, led by The Revd. Canon Christopher Morgan-Jones, Major Grayson Williams of the Salvation Army and Padre Danny Connolly of 36 Engineer Regiment, will include the two minutes silence at 11am and the laying of wreaths in memory of those lost in wars both past and present.

The Mayor will lay the first wreath on behalf of the council and the people of Maidstone.

After the Service, the parade will march back into Maidstone where the Mayor will take the salute outside the Town Hall at 11.25am.
