31/10/11 Southern Water Reminder - Trading Standards
Southern Water is reminding customers to aware of callers claiming to be from the company, but who are not. Southern Water has a five-year programme to install half a million water meters in homes across Kent. In most cases, Southern Water staff or contractors will not need to enter people’s homes. However, on some occasions this may be necessary and in these situations an appointment would be made in advance. Most new meters are installed in the ground just outside the property. Meters are currently being installed in the Swale area, with work in Thanet expected to start in the 2nd half of 2013 and Sandwich, Deal and surrounding villages in 2014 and 2015. Staff working on the Southern Water metering programme are easily identifiable. They wear uniforms and drive vehicles carrying the Southern Water name and logo. If you are in any doubt when someone calls at your home claiming to be from the Southern Water metering team, you should ask for their identification card. Southern Water staff, as well as contractors working for the company, are fully aware of this procedure and are happy to wait while customers check their identification. You can also phone the Southern Water Metering Customer Call Centre on 0333 2003 012 to ask for confirmation.
