Disability Sports To The Max - New club
Thursdays
will no longer be the same for disabled children across Kent.
Fifty youngsters recently attended the launch of a new disability
sports club called DMAX. The youngsters gathered at The Astor of Hever
Sports & Leisure Complex in Maidstone to try some sports of a
different kind.
The launch proved a huge success, with pupils from the Bower Grove
School, Maidstone; Abbey Court School, Rochester; Rowhill School,
Dartford; Helen Allison School, Meopham and Grange Park School, West
Malling, having a taster of what the club is to include.
Some of the sports include Boccia, which a sport is designed to be
played by people who have cerebral palsy; New Age Kurling, which is a
form of Curling but instead of playing on ice it’s played on
smooth flooring; extreme static cycling; Futsal, which is Brazilian
street-style football; rowing and badge making.
Following the launch, the DMAX Sports Club opened its doors last
Thursday (July 10), with 15 eager youngsters ready to have fun. The
first session was Futsal provided by coaches from Maidstone United. The
club is aimed to increase fitness levels and inspire young people to
become Paralympians for the 2012 Olympics. DMAX will have structured
sporting sessions, which will rotate every six weeks.
DMAX Sports Club is for children and young people from 8-19 years old
and is open to a variety of disabilities. The club is held at the Astor
Sports & Leisure Complex every Thursday between 6pm and 7.30pm.
It costs £15 per child for six weeks and a free T-shirt will
be given out. Alternatively you can pay £3 per session on the
day.
