Brogdale Horticultural Trust - Kent Apples, Pears Fruit And Perry

Brogdale Horticultural Trust is home to the National Fruit Collections and is one of the largest collections of fruit varieties in the world. It is however far more than a living museum. Brogdale is a very real and living part of the Kent fruit industry.

The Trust sells and promotes fruit and welcomes visitors to the farm shop. A number of events are held on the site where you can choose from a vast range of local fruit and learn more about the subject.

Brogdale Collections announces details of the 2011 festivals and events to be held at Brogdale Farm Faversham, Kent, home of the National Fruit Collections.Yearly festivals include:The festivals and events will celebrate British fruit and encourage people to discover a wider variety of delicious heritage fruit and eat and to grow more fruit at home. With over 4,000 varieties of fruit within the collections, there is something for everyone's tastes.

  • 11 - 12 July, the Cherry Festival marks high summer and lazy weekends in the sun.
  • 24 - 25 September, autumn approaches with the cider festival and enjoy the last rays of summer sun.
  • 22 - 23 October, autumn glory at the apple festival, with hundreds of varieties to taste.

There are also many smaller event days throughout the growing season including:

  • 24 April - Easter Sunday Easter Egg hunt
  • 26 June - Soft Fruit day
  • 14 August - Plum Day
  • 18 September - Nut Day

There is something for everyone to enjoy at the festivals and events including cookery demonstrations, gardening talks, miniature railway rides, tractor trailer rides, countryside displays, fruit to taste and take home, fruit identification and growing advice plus much more.

And if a visit to Brogdale Farm encourages you to want to grow fruit at home then there are a number of courses on planning a fruit garden, growing and pruning which run throughout the year.

If you are looking for unusual, rare or traditional Kent fruit Brogdale is the place to visit. At different times during the year you can find up to 100 different types of apple, pears, soft fruits and much more. The Brogdale shop also stocks a wide range of fruit related gifts.
