Best Farmers' Market In Kent - Kent Life Magazine Food & Drinks Awards 2004

Started in April 2003 as a new venture, this market is held every Tuesday from 10 am to 12.30 pm in the Village Hall, Lancaster Avenue, Capel-le-Ferne. The market was an idea put forward by the Village Hall Management Committee to provide a service for our community. We are, a non-profit making charity and every penny we raise from these markets goes back into the maintenance of our village hall.

Not all stallholders attend every market.

FARMER PALMER - QUALITY MEATS, POULTRY & GAME
Farmer Palmer’s Quality Meats (Burnt House Farm) are committed to bringing you, the customer, fresh, local, tasty and real value meat. Our meat is NOT gas flushed as it is in the supermarket and has only travelled a few miles from where it is born and reared to your plate. Unlike supermarket meat which travels 100’s of miles even before it is slaughtered and then even more miles to be processed and delivered to point of sale.

We specialise in the traditional breed of Romney lamb, Aberdeen Angus beef and Berkshire, Saddleback or Welsh pork, all of which are born and reared on our own farm in the Weald of Kent. We do not use in feed antibiotics and the animals are reared as naturally and happily as they can be. We aim to have happy, healthy animals that is proven in the eating!

At Bessborough Farm, we grow 17 varieties of apples, 12 varieties of plums,4 varieties of pears and an assortment of berries. We have been attending Farmers Markets for 4 years and in that time have developed an extensive range of jams and chutneys crammed full of top quality ingredients. There is nothing more satisfying than knowing a carefully produced crop is safely in a customer’s fruit bowl within 24 hours of it leaving the tree. We have enjoyed great success at many Markets across the South East including Capel. On the strength of this success we are currently replanting all our orchards to ensure we can supply our customers for many years to come. With the help of markets like Capel we are able to supply produce that is Fresher, Tastier and Cheaper than the supermarkets. We would like to thank all the customers for their continued support and congratulate the organisers for their efforts in promoting the market and raising a huge amount of money for the community.
