The Kent Website since 1999
Welcome to our Whitstable fresh fish feature. We've been featuring local fish retailers for nearly ten years, in that time the quality and quality of our coverage has been developed following feedback from our users and prompts from our researchers. If you have any experience of the Fish Market ot the fish they sell we'd welcome your comments. We're also happy to receive submissions from other wet fish retailers from Whitstable or in fact anywhere in Kent. Our contact details are at the foot of the page. Whitstable Fish Market (we think it was formerly known as St Augustines Fish Market) supplies a wide range of fresh fish and shellfish direct to the public, local hotels and restaurants. They also produce a range of smoked meats and fish. Both the quality and quantity of seafood sold has grown in recent years but it's still possible to get locally caught fish at competitive prices, if you purchase whatever may happen to be caught locally and 'in season'. As the fortunes of Whitstable in general and the harbour area in particular have increased so has the popularity of this keyside outlet.
According to the website the Fish Market is looking to develop it's online activity and implement a sustainable seafood policy.
As well as locally caught fish and shellfish the Fish Market also stock imported and farmed produce: When in season and available you can expect to find fresh; Bass (farmed or wild), Bream, Brill, Clams, Cockles, Cod, Crab, Dover Sole, Eels, Gurnard, Haddock, Langoustines, Lemon Sole, Lobster, Mackerel, Monk Fish (tails and fillets), Mullet, Mussels, Oysters, Plaice, Salmon, Sardines, Scallops, Scampi, Skate Wings, Squid, Turbot, Whelks, Whitebait, Winkles.
Smoked produce includes: Kipper, Mackerel (peppered or plain), Smoked Cod Roe, Smoked Haddock Fillet, Smoked Salmon and Smoked Trout.
If you haven't been to Whitstable harbour it's a worth a visit in its own right. The Market has its retail operation right on the wharf and is shop is open seven days a week and also runs a delivery service.
