Kent Farmers' Markets

Local Fresh Free Range And Organic Produce

If you're interested in fresh Kent produce why not visit your local Kent Farmers' Market? Take a look at our listings below, its not an exhaustive directory but there's bound to be one somewhere in your area. Farmers' markets reveal something of the ever changing nature in the way trends and tastes form, dissolve and reform. Traditional local markets were a centerpiece of community life for hundreds of years, ensuring the local connection between 'farm and fork'. Come the industrialization of the food process, the success of the supermarket concept and we see the closure of most of the sustainable local produce based markets in the UK. Fast forward a decade or two to the 1990s and we see the development of the farmers' market movement and a return to the 'farm to fork' concept.

Local produce markets never completely died out, but the end of the 1990s saw a define resurgence in demand and a subsequent recreation of local produce markets into farmers' markets. 2007 the formation of the Kent Farmers’ Market Association and this represented formal backing for the concept following research by Produced in Kent. In essence the findings of the study were that farmers' markets were useful to the economy but could become more beneficial with ann organisation to help support and promote their activities.

We list many of the most important markets below. Although we make every effort to ensure these details are correct they are subject to change. If in doubt please check with the appropriate organisation or Farmer's' Market manager before your visit. Consider that some farmers' markets are seasonal and times and venues do change.
